How to Handle the Common Causes of Commercial Damage | SERVPRO® of Cedar Mill/Oak Hills

6/16/2022 (Permalink)

a large commercial building with extensive damage to roof and siding SERVPRO of Cedar Mill/Oak Hills are your local commercial disaster team. Contact us to learn more about our commercial damage restoration services.

The importance of businesses, both large and small, in the United States cannot be understated. Business owners must balance so many tasks in their day-to-day ranging from payroll and finances to training and hiring employees. With all of this on their plates, there is no good time to deal with the damages of a disaster.

Last year alone, almost $150 billion in damages occurred due to weather-related events and the cost in damages continues to increase every year.

In a place like Cedar Mill, Beaverton and Hillsboro, severe winter storms can devastate the community and can cause power outages and road closures.

Here are the common ways natural disasters can damage our businesses and how to address them:

Water Damage

Water damage after precipitation is a huge cause of costs after extreme weather. Snow that collects on top of roofs can accumulate and create leaks and damage to businesses. Snowmelt flooding can also cause issues for the foundation of your building.

When this heavy precipitation occurs, it is important to make sure your building is resilient. Inspect your roof to make sure it’s healthy and substantial. And you should also consider landscaping in a mindful way to redirect water away from your business.

Leaking, even at a low rate, can cause severe damage when left unattended. Being aware of the condition of your walls, ceiling and floors is a good way to check for damage. If you can see discoloration or any abnormalities, it is best to address those early on.

Storm Damage

Storms, big or small, can have a significant impact on our homes and businesses. Even at a lower intensity, storm winds can toss debris into the air and damage exteriors. At higher intensity, winds can exceed 70 mph. This can cause serious structural damage and even peel off roofs when speeds of 75+ mph are reached. It is not unlikely for a loss of life to occur at this stage.

Window covers can be utilized to reduce storm damage, but it is important to ensure that windows and their seals are inspected. Similarly, the door seals and their integrity are also worth checking up on.

Knowing what can and cannot be blown away in heavy winds can save you from having to suffer more damage costs. Loosely held signs, outdoor furniture and decorations are all capable of being whisked away when a big storm comes.

Know Who to Call

In rain, snow or winds, the damage they cause can be great. While it may seem cumbersome at first, taking the steps to protect and prevent storms is worth it in the long run.

Closing down to make repairs is not something any business owner wants to do. Thankfully, we have 247 availability, and our expert team quickly responds to ensure that the proper restoration plan is enacted.

Protect Your Business With Our Fire Safety Tips | SERVPRO® of Cedar Mill/Oak Hills

packet of paper on a desk showing a fire response plan Having a plan in place and the proper equipment installed can prevent many business fires. Contact us today to make a plan or start cleanup services.

Experiencing a fire is never something that is on someone’s agenda, but they happen more often than you might think. Over 18,000 business fires caused more than $700 million in damages in 2019 alone. Taking a proactive fire safety approach is key to making sure you are reducing your chances of ever having to deal with a fire in your business.

Fortunately, implementing fire safety in your business is about planning ahead and generally developing good habits to prevent it from becoming an issue. Prevention and escape planning recommendations are similar to those of house fires.

How Can I Take a Proactive Fire Safety Approach?

Check your smoke detectors. If you never consider the smoke detectors in your building, now is the time to start. Smoke detectors should be installed throughout the business and be tested every 30 days to make sure they do not have defects. The majority of business fires are caused by cooking, so kitchen/cafeteria smoke detectors are especially important. Most commercial buildings will have their own fire suppression systems, so make sure they are regularly inspected by professionals.

Create a fire escape plan. If the smoke detectors do go off, it is important that everyone at your company knows what comes next and how to escape safely. Employees should:

  • Call 911
  • Notify co-workers of the fire
  • Walk, don’t run, down the stairs – never use the elevator
  • designate a spot for you to all reconvene outside to check in.

Limit your fire risks. There are many ways to get into the habit of fire safety to lessen your overall fire risk profile including:

  • Post clear fire escape plans on every level of a building
  • Teach employees about exit locations, escape routes and fire protection equipment
  • Check the condition of fire ladders and escapes
  • Conduct regular emergency drills

Keep a fire extinguisher handy. Though there are many fires that will immediately be too large to use a fire extinguisher on, if there is a small and contained fire, knowing how to use one can keep a small issue from becoming a large one. A working fire extinguisher should be installed in the kitchen/cafeteria and any other high-risk areas (following all fire codes), and you and your employees should all be familiar with how to use them.

If your business is damaged by a fire, we are here to help. Our expert fire restoration technicians are here 247 to spring into action as soon as you call. Contact us at any hour to report your damage and receive a quick response.

Preparing Your Business in Case Disaster Strikes | SERVPRO® of Cedar Mill/Oak Hills

3/2/2022 (Permalink)

SERVPRO disaster plan packet sitting on a desk Having a plan in place in case of disaster can save your and your business from further losses. Contact us today to find out more.

If you own a business, it is prudent to make sure you are as prepared as possible for an emergency or disaster in order to protect your livelihood. To jumpstart this process, we recommend that business owners first take survey of where your preparedness levels are currently, so you can better understand where to improve or change them.

There are several key areas that can let you know exactly how prepared you are for an emergency. Having an understanding of your commercial insurance coverage and having a discussion with your insurance agent will let you know if additional policies are required to protect you. The other big factor is to make sure there is a plan in place, both for the moment disaster strikes and for recovery. Making sure these plans are in place, and you and your employees know them, can keep your business safe and make restoration go as quickly as possible.

Commercial Insurance Coverage

There are many various things that a commercial insurance policy will cover, but often in the case of disasters, their coverage alone can be insufficient. Talk with your insurance agent about where your policy might be lacking or what events can cause your coverage needs to change. Most carriers have the option to buy umbrella coverage and interruption insurance to make sure you are fully protected against disaster.

Supply Kit and Emergency Plan

If a severe weather event is on the way or a disaster such as a fire breaks out, there are maybe a few key moments to react. Having an emergency plan in place will help you and your employees make the most of the time you have. Plan for any potential threat that may present itself like having escape routes for situations where evacuation is the best course of action. The situation may also arise where you may need to remain in the office and survive off a workplace emergency kit until rescuers can come.

Have a Plan for Restoration and Recovery

Limiting the time your business must suspend operations due to the recovery process is the best way to avoid excessive losses due to lack of sales. In your recovery plan, decide on what restoration company to use when disaster strikes - this will allow you to make the call right away when you discover damage to your assets. In addition to that research, it would be wise to see if you qualify for disaster loan assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration to help cover some of these costs at a low interest rate.

If your business has been impacted by a disaster or you want to make a plan, contact us 247 for information on the commercial restoration process.

SERVPRO employee standing in office next to a person reviewing plans If the day comes where your business is hit with disaster or emergency, you can rest assured SERVPRO of Cedar Mill/Oak Hills will be there to help.

Running a business is often more than a full-time job. Between staff, payroll and keeping up with constant economic and technological advancement, innovating and presenting yourself well on social media, it’s a lot to handle and can be hard to balance.

It can take only one disruption to push a business off its tracks. According to FEMA, 40% of small businesses aren’t able to reopen after a disaster halts operations, and within a year, a quarter of those that do reopen are forced to close their doors.

If the pandemic shutdowns have taught us anything, it’s that it’s more important than ever for businesses to have a plan in place in case of an emergency or disaster. Three-quarters of all small businesses don’t have a plan in place and something has to change. You’ve worked hard to get your business where it is, and now you should do everything you can to protect it and help it thrive.

SERVPRO of Cedar Mill/Oak Hills is proud to help businesses in the region like yours be prepared by working with you to create an Emergency Ready Plan. We assist you through evaluating your needs and concerns specifically to your location and industry.

We’ll touch on everything from natural disasters to sewer backups, so that if your business is ever faced with an emergency, having your plan in place minimizes downtime and impact. You and your teams will know exactly what to do and when.

Don’t let poor disaster planning make your business journey any tougher than it already is. Let our experts at SERVPRO get you prepared with an Emergency Ready Plan. It could end up being the reason your business survives a disruption.

When your business is ready to prioritize planning and safety to prevent extended downtime, contact SERVPRO to get the Emergency Ready Plan underway from the folks who know all there is to know about disaster and recovery.

As you are aware by now, SERVPRO offers custom solutions for homeowners. But did you know that we take care of our business owners, too? We provide commercial restoration services after any type of accident or disaster!

Here at SERVPRO, we know what it’s like to be a business owner and the importance of having a clean commercial space. That’s why we are determined to help you in keeping your facilities clean.

Commercial Cleaning for All Businesses

Your focus should always be your customers, and you can allow us to make your business’ cleanliness our business. We send in professionals to provide high-grade cleaning and sanitation for every size of business:

Shopping malls, restaurants and small boutiques. From a small, local antique shop to major shopping stores, we provide the same exceptional service.

Educational facilities from preschools to major universities. While most places have a janitorial service, studies show that regular cleaning only clears half the bacteria from desks. And that’s if they are cleaned every day; if they aren’t, the numbers are much worse.

Places like hotels, convention centers and other large venues. We can make the entrance of your facility feel like more of an escape—and one that’s clean and safe.

Foodservice facilities like quick-service restaurants or distribution centers. Any business related to food needs to maintain a higher level of clean.

Apartment complexes, small office buildings or multi-level high rises. The cleanliness and sanitation of these facilities can make or break the business.

The stakes are high. Each year, $260 billion is lost due to sick days and diminished productivity due to illness. We can help dwindle this down by helping you to provide a clean, healthy environment for your employees and customers alike.

When you’re ready to have the cleanest business in town, we’re ready to help. Contact SERVPRO of Cedar Mill/Oak Hills to get the pros working on the cleaning so you can work on the work.

Preparing Your Rock Creek Business to Bounce Back From Natural Disasters | SERVPRO® of Cedar Mill/Oak Hills

2/24/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO employee wearing black shirt reviewing restoration plans on tablet with business owner in gray suit When natural disaster strikes, SERVPRO of Cedar Mill/Oak Hills is ready and knows the commercial restoration process inside and out.

If our community has learned anything from the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s that life can be unpredictable and you can’t always be prepared for events. But we do know it’s possible to take steps to put yourself in a good position if something unexpected happens.

So we want to ask business owners in Rock Creek and the surrounding areas a simple question. Do you have a good plan in place to guide your business through a natural disaster?

Over the past year, business owners (and most everyone else) have seen firsthand how an unexpected disaster or event can impact their daily routines. Many members of our business community have risen to the occasion during the pandemic by looking for new solutions to problems and ways to continue providing services.

It’s not possible to predict natural disasters. And certainly, no one saw a major pandemic coming. But there are disasters that are more common—like fires, floods and severe storms.

We want to serve our local business community as best we can, so our team has put together some of the best advice we can offer to help you be prepared for a disaster and the commercial restoration process.

From Disaster to Restoration

You can still be a successful business owner after a disaster. Here are some tips to help you sail through the process:

Prioritize your disaster plan. It’s smart to prepare for a disaster before it strikes. That’s where your business disaster plan comes into play. Having it perfected before you need it can help guide you through the aftermath of a disaster when it’s harder to think clearly. For example, you may want to consider moving your business to a backup location, if that’s an option for you.

Take plenty of pictures (and make an inventory, too). Your insurance company will want to know the extent of your damage before the cleanup process begins. You can document that by taking photos of it. It’s also a good idea to put together a list of items that were lost or damaged during the disaster.

Don’t neglect updating your community. Staying in touch with your suppliers, your employees, your customers and your wider community is a smart move. And it’s easier than you might think. You can use social media and other tools to make it happen.

Don’t neglect yourself, either. Dealing with damage and restoration as a business owner is stressful. Be sure you’re taking care of yourself by making rest and healthy eating a priority. Also, talk with people you trust about how you’re feeling.

If a fire, flood or any other cause damages your business, you can always count on us for restoration assistance. We have crews who are available 247 in the event of an emergency. Contact us at any time to learn more about our restoration services and how we can help you.

Recovering as a Business Owner After a Disaster

Recovering as a Business Owner After a Disaster | SERVPRO® of Cedar Mill/Oak Hills

It is so rewarding to build a business and succeed, but if a disaster comes through and causes damage, that is a frustrating incident that is entirely out of your hands. This can devastate businesses that are not prepared, which is why knowing what you would do in this type of situation is so important for the longevity of your business after an emergency.

Safety during a disaster is the most important thing, so we highly recommend starting with a plan that encompasses your evacuation procedure, communicating with employees and keeping your office stocked with emergency supplies. Once you do this, you can move into phase two of the planning, which involves determining how you will be able to quickly recover.

Planning for Post-Disaster Recovery for Your Business

Check your insurance coverage and call your restoration company. No two commercial insurance policies are the same, so it is wise to get in touch with your provider to make sure you have all the information necessary to file a claim if you are able to. Next, contact your commercial restoration company to get that process started. In many cases, they will be able to talk with your insurance company directly to keep things simple for you.

Get in touch with your customers quickly. Your customers will want to hear from you after a disaster, so sending out messages quickly is a great way to keep them in the loop on your timeline and how they will be able to support you through this time. It might be worth considering doing a special promotion with gift cards or other long-lasting items that they can purchase and use at a later date to assist you throughout the rebuilding process.

Make sure you are aware of the assistance offerings. There are many disaster assistance programs available to business owners, such as the Small Business Administration’s loan program, which can be used for restoration, disaster-related costs and even income due to losses from the damage. These loans are typically designed to be easy to qualify for and to repay to help business owners rebuild.

If your business has been damaged due to a disaster, we’re here to help. Contact us at any hour to report your damage or to learn more about our commercial restoration services.

There are many various things that a commercial insurance policy will cover, but often in the case of disasters, their coverage alone is not sufficient. Talk with your insurance agent about where your policy might be lacking—businesses not being covered against flooding is the most common issue, but there is also the option to buy umbrella coverage and interruption insurance to make sure you are fully protected.

Your Emergency Plan and Supply Kit

If a weather emergency is on the way or a disaster such as a fire breaks out, there are generally a scarce few minutes to react. Therefore, putting a plan in place will help you make the most of the time you have. Plan for any potential threat that may present itself, and provision for situations where evacuation is the best course of action as well as situations where you may need to remain in the office and survive off an emergency kit until help arrives.

Your Plan for Restoration and Recovery

Limiting the time your business has to spend closed due to recovery is the best way to avoid excessive losses due to a lack of income. Deciding in advance what restoration company to use is a big factor in this because it will allow you to make the call right away when you discover damage to your property. Additionally, research if you qualify for disaster assistance loans from the Small Business Administration to help cover some of these costs at a reduced interest rate.

If your business has been impacted by a disaster, you can contact us 247 for guidance on how to begin the commercial restoration process.

Making Sure Your Business is Adhering to Fire Codes | SERVPRO® of Cedar Mill/Oak Hills

3/3/2020 (Permalink)

Business owners have to plan for a variety of things, but one of the most essential hazards to plan for is a commercial fire. Fires happen quite frequently and for a variety of reasons, which is why it is important to always be vigilant about making sure your business is adhering to the fire codes set forth by authorities to be as safe as possible.

Making sure your business is up to code involves providing adequate equipment, putting planning measures in place and keeping fire exits clear to allow for quick evacuation if needed. Here are some guidelines to be sure your business is adhering to.

Fire Safety Code Guideline for Businesses

Install fire detection and suppression equipment. Installing fire alarms, smoke detectors, and sprinkler systems throughout your business is a wise choice in case a fire breaks out, and is often a requirement for commercial spaces. Once these systems are installed, performing monthly alarm checks and working with your local fire department for equipment testing will help you make sure you are adhering to these guidelines and lessening your risks.

Keep fire extinguishers handy for all staff members. Keeping fire extinguishers present and accessible is an important part of fire safety. This way, if it is safe to do so, a fire can be stopped before it has a chance to spread and wreak more havoc on your business. Be sure that you purchase the right type of extinguishers for the fire causes your business is likely to face and follow inspection guidelines to ensure they are still in working order and not in danger of expiring.

Host regular fire evacuation drills with staff. Making sure your staff knows exactly what to do when the fire alarm sounds is an important part of keeping everyone safe. Go over evacuation procedures with staff and host drills regularly. Be sure you are reviewing different scenarios and utilizing different exit points, so that you and your staff are prepared for the variety of situations that could be possible when a fire starts.

How to Assess Your Business’ Emergency Preparedness Levels | SERVPRO® of Cedar Mill/Oak Hills

If you own your own business, you are likely familiar with how damaging natural disasters can be for those who are unprepared. It is a competitive market for small businesses, and when disasters enter the mix, things can become even more dire.

If you have started the emergency preparedness process already, you may be wondering if you are doing enough to protect your investment should a disaster or emergency occur. To help you determine where your business stands, we have put together three of the most important considerations for preparedness so you can evaluate where you should focus your efforts:

Do You Have an Evacuation Plan in Place?

Having an evacuation plan is the first step toward disaster preparedness. You should have a plan for various scenarios including fires, floods, and severe weather, as well as any risks your specific business might be exposed to (such as a chemical spill or other industry-specific emergency). Develop this plan and practice it with employees at least twice a year, being sure to debrief as a company afterward to address any questions or concerns.

A Guide to Disaster Recovery for Small Businesses | SERVPRO® of Cedar Mill/Oak Hills

Facing a disaster as a small business owner can be a scary thing, but putting a plan in place can help you achieve peace of mind in case one ever impacts you.

Having a clear action plan for recovery will allow you to spring into action as soon as the disaster has passed, helping you to get back to business much quicker than if you did not know what to do. Read on for our four-step guide to disaster recovery for small businesses:

  1. Create a Business Disaster Recovery Plan

Think of your business disaster recovery plan as your master document to guide you through the emergency preparations for your business. It should include a customized risk assessment, so you know where to focus the majority of your resources, a communications plan for how you know where to focus the majority of your resources, a communications plan for how you will get ahold of employees in the aftermath, and information regarding document and data backups in case the original copies get destroyed during the disaster.

It should include a customized risk assessment, so you know where to focus the majority of your resources, a communications plan for how you will get ahold of employees in the aftermath, and information regarding document and data backups in case the original copies get destroyed during the disaster.

  1. Be Sure You Understand Your Business Insurance Policy

Not all commercial insurance policies are created equal, so making sure you understand what your coverage map looks like is key. Most commercial policies will cover basic things, but many business owners choose to add on extras such as flood insurance, interruption insurance and umbrella insurance to make sure there are no surprises in the aftermath of a disaster.

  1. Choose a Commercial Restoration Company

The commercial restoration company you choose is one of the biggest factors that determines how quickly you can get back to business following a disaster—and reopening as quickly as possible is one of the best things you can do. For these reasons, picking a commercial restoration company in advance is a wise choice. That way you can call them immediately after the disaster in order to begin the restoration process as quickly as possible.

  1. Research Disaster Relief Loans

Depending on the type of disaster that has occurred, the Small Business Association offers many commercial disaster loans for business owners. These loans are offered at a lower than usual interest rate to help business owners get the funds they need to cover all the costs associated with recovery.

What to Do if There Is Flooding at Your Business | SERVPRO® of Cedar Mill/Oak Hills

2/24/2020 (Permalink)

flooded warehouse with items floating With a 24/7 emergency line and years of experience in the field, you can count on us to restore your business as quickly as possible.

If you experience a flood at your business, determining what comes next can be overwhelming. For business owners, being faced with flood damage is doubly alarming as it impacts both your belongings and your livelihood. However, if you find yourself in this situation, taking a few steps right away can help mitigate any further damage and get your restoration process started as quickly as possible so you can reopen your doors.

5 Steps to Take After Your Business Floods

  1. Do not go in without permission.

After a flood, officials will need to determine when a property is safe to enter, and it is important that you wait for the green light before you do so. Floodwater can hide electrical dangers, chemicals, and other hazards, so it is essential to not put yourself in further danger by going in prematurely.

  1. Collect what you are able to salvage.

Depending on the severity of the flood, you may be able to salvage some documents or equipment from the building when you re-enter. Be extremely careful around electronics or any other hazards that may be present.

  1. Make a list of the damage.

Taking an inventory of all of the losses from a flood, both as a list and with photos, is always advised. This will help you as you deal with your insurance company to recoup your losses, as you will be in possession of concrete evidence of all the damage done.

  1. Contact your insurance company.

Getting in touch with your insurance agent as soon as possible is key for filing your flood claim and setting the process in motion. It is always advised that business owners purchase flood insurance in addition to their general policy so they are covered in the event of a flood.

  1. Contact your restoration company.

Water and flood damage should always be treated as quickly as possible to avoid further issues and set the restoration process in motion. It is wise to have a commercial restoration company picked out in advance—preferably one with a 24/7 emergency line—so you can contact them the moment the restoration process can begin to help you get back to business as quickly as possible.

Water Damage in the Workplace

5/3/2019 (Permalink)

When business owners visualize water damage, they often imagine a massive storm wiping out power lines, flooding offices, and shutting down businesses for days at a time. It is true that commercial water damage is often the result of floods and water that stems from weather events and storms.

However, many entrepreneurs and business space renters forget that storms and severe weather aren't the only causes of floods and water damage.

Here are some of the typical causes of water damage to commercial buildings:

Malfunctioning sprinkler systems

Some older office and retail buildings still have outdated sprinkler systems that work in conjunction with fire protection systems. While such sprinklers can come in handy during a fire emergency, they can also cause commercial flood damage if they are faulty or in need of replacement. This could easily damage inventory and business assets.

Damaged appliances and equipment

This cause of commercial flood damage is more common in restaurants and catering facilities, as well as any business that has appliances and equipment that make use of water. If the appliance fails and sends water across your building, especially during late hours when no one is around, you may come back to work and face a water emergency.

Broken pipes and plumbing

Just like in a residence, if the plumbing system in your workplace fails water damage could be the result.

Backed up sewer lines

This is another cause of commercial water damage that often catches business owners by surprise. Should the sewer line to your building back up or become damaged, realize the potential dangers of contaminated Black Water which can cause health effects and ruin products and office furnishings.

If your business has suffered commercial water damage, SERVPRO of Cedar Mill / Oak Hills will assist you on getting things up and running again.

How dryer vents can affect your business

1/18/2019 (Permalink)

Apartments pose an increased risk because of the high volume of units. If not maintained, there's a higher increased risk of fire!

One of the most common causes of fires in both apartments and homes, is also perhaps one of the most preventable.

Dryer vents connect from your clothes dryer, and can build up lint. If not cleaned out properly, the air cannot flow properly, and a fire can result. This type of fire happens most frequently in homes and apartments, posing dangers to adults and children.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, 2,900 home clothes dryer fires are reported each year. These fires cause an estimated 5 deaths, 100 injuries, and $35 million in property loss. The U.S. Fire Administration also reports that the leading cause of home clothes dryer fires is failure to clean them (34 percent).

Apart from cleaning your dryer vent, the U.S. Fire Administration has suggestions to enhance safety when using your clothes dryer:

  • Don’t use a clothes dryer without a lint filter or with a lint filter that is loose, damaged or clogged.

  • Don’t overload the dryer.

  • Don’t use a wire screen or cloth to cover the wall damper. They can collect lint and clog the dryer vent.

  • Don’t dry anything containing foam, rubber or plastic. An example of an item not to place in a dryer is a bathroom rug with a rubber backing.

  • Don’t dry any item for which manufacturers' instructions state “dry away from heat.”

  • Don’t dry glass fiber materials (unless manufacturers' instructions allow).

  • Don’t dry items that have come into contact with anything flammable like alcohol, cooking oils or gasoline. Dry them outdoors or in a well-ventilated room, away from heat.

  • Don’t leave a clothes dryer running if you leave home or when you go to bed.

So whether you're a property manager of an apartment complex, or homeowner that's needing extra precautions... The bottom line here is to ensure a decreased risk of damage by keeping up with maintenance. At SERVPRO of Cedar Mill / Oak Hills, we also offer duct cleaning services to make sure people won't face this issue. Tips to prevent house fires during the holidays

11/19/2018 (Permalink)

Warm fires are common. But be safe and vigilant!

The odds of facing a house fire is roughly 1 in 3000. With the holidays right around the corner, there will be an abundant amount of cooking and open flames to keep the house warm and cozy. We at SERVPRO of Cedar Mill have some wise advice for keeping safe, and decreasing those odds with these extra precautions:

Cooking

The leading cause for house fires is by cooking, or lack of attention while in session. It's easy to get distracted with kids and family while the pans are frying and oven is heating. Set timers and keep vigiliant about the location so you'll know when the food is ready. Always keep a fire extinguisher in your kitchen and functioning smoke detector.

Candles

The incidence of candle fires is four times higher during December than during other months. According to the National Fire Protection Association, four of the five most dangerous days of the year for residential candle fires are Christmas/Christmas Eve and New Year’s/New Year’s Eve.

We highly recommend ensuring candles are blown out before leaving a residence, even if it's for a short period of time. It's the little sparks that can create a major blaze.

Christmas trees

It takes 30 seconds for a dry tree to go up in flames. No matter how watered the tree is, it'll take about 4 weeks for it to become dry regardless. Be sure to place the tree away from any heating source, such as space heaters and baseboard heaters.

Exterior Painting Cedar Mill

12/14/2017 (Permalink)

We will paint your commercial building for you!

4 Things to think about when painting the exterior of your commercial building in Cedar Mill:

1. Check the forecast -

Paint needs time to dry for maximum effectiveness. Make sure you paint your exterior when it is not the rainy season. (Good luck finding a dry stretch to paint the exterior in Cedar Mill)

2. Now is not the time to get cheap -

Some things you can get the cheaper brand with but exterior paint is not one of them. Trying to go cheap and save yourself money now will cost you more in having to redo the painting sooner than you needed to.

3. Scratch the surface -

Paint likes smooth surfaces so make sure you sand down or scrape any rough patches or chips in your building’s exterior.

4. Primetime baby -

The rule of thumb has always been to apply a good coat of primer, sand, then apply your color coats. You could also use the paint and primer in one, either way, make sure you prime your building.

Exterior Painting takes lots of time and needs to be done right, call SERVPRO and save yourself the hassle. (503) 619-6198
